How long have you been playing, NT? I really like your playing, and it's obvious you've been playing for a while, I play too and I find it impossible to play while singing. I figure that takes a lot of practice/time.

The subject of how long I've been playing actually came up a few nights ago and I couldn't remember exactly. I was in my early teens, though. I've been playing for over 15 years for sure. I'll never been "outstanding," but I've progressed in many ways.

The best way to learn to sing while playing is start out humming the chord while you're playing. Don't worry about words yet.

My lil sister just gave me her fender squire so Im gonna have a bash at learning myself. From what I've heard of your playing you dont get self indulgent with the guitar, EVERY band I've been have atleast 1 ott guitar solo per song, they never added to the song or complimented bar the odd few, your work all fits very well into place. I try and take take the same aproach to my bass in songs, I've had comments Like why didnt you add any slap solos like when you were warming up, I dont simply becuase they would be out of place and showing of for the sake of what I can do technicaly.

I agree with you. I'm not a very good lead guitarist, though. I keep it very simple.

At the end of the day if it sounds good then thats all that matters :) I know alot of people into dream theatre, they are all great players, the music as far as my understanding of theory(which is very limited) goes is very complex but the music just doesnt grab may attention or move me like other songs do.

Well, my trick is, I know a bunch of chords, but I use maybe 4 or 5 in a song and it sounds better than if I were to use a bunch of them. I think that simple playing just sounds better. I do the solos in my mind. Haha.

I can too sing, Ashley. I sing "It's Finally Tomorrow" really good. I'm the shite.

A wide influence helps in building guitar skills. I listen to a lot of classic rock, punk, pop, and contemorary. Minors are a lot of fun! If you're playing in the Key of G, throw a Bm7 in there. It will resonate well and give you more options for vocals.

I'm not a fast soloist. My solos are more note oriented as opposed to speed. Maybe one tap set every maybe 5 songs.
