I've started recording for my next "album". I've created a project journal for it on the forum. I'd like to have it done the first quarter of next year. I'll be posting snippets in the journal here:

Cool. It's nice to have folks interested. I'm going to try and keep up with the journal. It's always interesting for me to go back and read a journal long after it's done and remember the process. _________________

Sounds really good so far. Just checked out OOAL and DBL. Is the LP going to follow the same mellow theme? _________________ DO OR DO NOT...THERE IS NO TRY |

I'm going to mix it up a little. "Got It Wrong" is definitely in a different direction. I think it's going to be a mixed bag honestly. I'm trying to organize things right now. We shall see. Thanks for the feedback. _________________

hey nt
I've followed your music since the MAH days and during the time we worked together (locnet, etc). Since then I've moved off and into a whole new buisness, but I always find myself checking in on your site to see how things and going and what you're doing.
I just checked out the 3 new tracks you've started laying down. I can honestly say I've seen alot of growth in your music over the years as well as the following (yeah, you have a following, check you out).
Anyway to the point, out on a limb is outright my favorite out of the 3, you definatly seem to have moved on into having your own sound. You sound vocally way farther along, and as always your playing (of all instruments) is outstanding. I really can't wait to see what else you come up with for this cd. And finally lyrically your songs have always seemed to have meaning, you can tell when you listen that something inspired you to write that song, but to me I've only really "connected" with a few of your songs and felt like it had some sort of meaning to me. However when listening to these new tracks I felt very, for lack of a better word, emotional.
So to sum it all up, as always fantastic job nt |

Thanks, man. Strangely I've felt a growth within the past year and a half or so. My voice is a little stronger. I've learned my weaknesses so that I can avoid them more and work on them in private.
I don't know what has necessarily "matured" with my lyrics, but I do know that some elements flow out of me a little easier these days. Maybe that's tangled up in the confidence of my growth as an artist. That's a guess there.
I'm glad you felt something. That's a good thing. That's the ultimate goal - to express myself fulfillingly and have others follow along and psuedo-empathize perhaps. _________________

I'm listening to the new tracks now and they sound pretty good for 'rough' versions. I especially liked Death By Luxury, even though it's a short and lo-fi clip. Keep up the great work, I look forward to the new album as I really enjoy the style of music that you play. Combined with the lyrics it's a nice break from the normal grind of the radio. _________________ "Poor shovel, it didn't ask to be in this movie." -Crow T. Robot |

Thanks. its made me pick up my old guitar again. |

Excellent. Thanks. I'm not too far off from being halfway through with recording. I had almost forgotten how much I loved recording/engineering/mixing. Glad you dig it so far. _________________

I enjoyed the short clip of Next Step Backwards. The bass is pretty groovy when it kicks in. _________________ I didn't say it was your FAULT I said I was going to BLAME YOU |

Yeah, I love what Eric's doing on bass there. It really compliments. The drums are looped straight out of GarageBand, too. It's a great loop. There won't be many of those, though. _________________

Yeah, Next Step Backwards is my favorite so far (as you can imagine from my style). I'm sorry I haven't been around much, had a lot going on here wrapping up some work. Also NT I'm almost finished with a really interesting script that a cool cat gave me much too long ago. Been meaning to get back with him as of late. _________________ No... and yes. thats a cool track.
nicely restrained and simple but very full sounding. that's a cool bass line running through the track too, really adds a depth to the sound. really looking forward to hearing the album now. |

Glad you dig it. I know the track will probably appeal to an older audience, but the rest of the album isn't really like that. _________________

Listened to the snippets you've put up since I left.
I have to say that the "Listen to the burn" solo is my favorite. The "we turn and we turn" background vocs are just perfect when you do them yourself, they're too quiet in the bigger mix. In addition, your vocal performance is more expressive in the solo and makes it that much more lovely to listen to.
"Love and be loved" is my next favorite snippet. I'm a sucker for that little xylophone/glockenspiel thing.
If I had to pick a low point for the work thus far it's the crowd sample on "got it wrong" - it kind of slides on in, with the shout first and a scattering of claps afterward. It needs a real dynamic punch to stand out among all those other fabulous punchy drums and your distorted voice. One big clap and shout at the same time to start it off, and it would make a lot of difference. Of course, how often do you find a crowd and a condenser mic in the same room to get the sample you really want? I know it never happens for me. |
