Windows Movie Maker

Postby Jaise » April 6th, 2005, 6:42 am

heeeey all,

A question thats been buggin me for a while....

I used to make like mini movies with a webcam (it was quite poor really) in Windows Movie Maker. Everything would go well, i would edit it, put music in, voice over etc, but the thing i found was that after a while (at a certain point of the making), Windows Movie Maker would always freeze :S. I mean ALWAYS freeze, it was really annoying because it meant you could only use it for about 5 mins before it froze each time! Anyways, im just wondering why really, my laptop is a recent make with 40GB, 512 ram etc.

Any ideas?

I found this program to be really buggy. It needs a huge hunk of ram ( I was using 640meg in 2002 and that still didn't help) as it will use all resources of your PC. Its just a bad program all the way around but I havent used it in years.

You can try it for free http://www.download.com/Ulead-VideoStud ... 34257.html

I got a copy free with my DVD burner, so its actually cheaper to by a DVD burner than the program by itself. That doesn't make much sense. Its a nice tool for general video editing.

The Ulead site says it $99. I bought a lite on DVD burner a about 8 months ago for $75 and got the program for free. Go figure

If you have a Macintosh, then get iMovie. Actually if you have OSX on your mac, it will already come with. It is a very easy to use movie editing program.

Speaking of RAM i just upgraded a day ago to 1.5 GB!!!! Congratulations to me. It chopped my rendering times in half, which is very pleasing.

Are you on a Mac or PC? I've got 512 MB in my PC. It isn't too bad for what I do, which is mostly After Effects.

yeah, windows movie maker is ok, provided it runs stable, if it doesnt you might want to go for something bigger. if you're looking into buying something, id personaly go with Adobe Premiere Elements ($99) its like the regular premiere, only stripped down. if it runs as stable as the full version does then its worth it, i tried ulead and it was very just slow and clunky.
