Iron Man's greatest villain was The Mandarin. No Mandarin = fail.
Supposedly the sequel is going to feature War Machine as the main villain. Which makes sense, but damn it...I want The Mandarin.

I enjoyed it a lot. In fact, one of the best super hero movies i have seen in a long time. Better than any of the Spiderman movies but not as good as the first or second X-Men.
Perfect casting for Tony Stark too. I am not sure anyone else could have done the part as well as Robert Downey Jr. Looks...attitude...all done very well.

I liked this movie. I've been fired up to see it since I saw the very first footage online months ago. Usually when I get my expectations up, I'm in for what turns out to be at least a big disappointment or worse -- a total shit-bomb. This movie, however, did me right. Downey Jr. was good, as usual. The effects and flying sequences were well done. I could've used a little more actual Iron Man in the movie, but that's usually my beef with most superhero movies. Needs more superhero-ing. All in all, a solid first chapter in what will hopefully be a successful franchise. I definitely think it's one of the best comic book movies we've gotten in the past few years. I agree with hungerfan that it was better than the Spider-Man movies.
P.S. I hear Robert Downey Jr. has a cameo as Stark in the new Hulk movie. I like the way Marvel is starting to tie their universe together in the movies.
P.P.S. I also thought this had the best of the Stan Lee cameos.

Yeah, I wish they'd get over the whole Stan Lee cameo thing at this point. We get it. Most of the time it's incredibly forced and draws unnecessary attention to itself. That being said, the one in Iron Man actually made me smile. But really, I think it's time to give it a rest.

It is about time. I was just bitching on Friday after watching Iron Man about there not being any other super hero...at all...in the world when you watch these movies. A quick flyby would be nice to show people who are not comic geeks that these guys all live in the same world.
I find it a bit disturbing to see adults acting like that...
Amazing what people will do when in front of a camera. Prob a little money mixed in too which never hurts.

I don't know if any of you stayed for the post credits scene or have read about it, but that scene combined with the Stark cameo in Incredible Hulk does go a long way toward suggesting that Marvel finally seems willing to open up the universe of the movies and have all these characters existing in the same world.
And yes, Outbound, that superhero reality show is one of the most painful things I've ever tried to watch.

I had to rub one out after watching the scene after the credits to Iron Man.
That's how excited I got.

Marvel is getting everyone ready for Captain America: The first Avenger in 2010 or 2011. The Marvel film studio DOES have an aggressive , full tilt boogie, schedule ahead. Buy Marvel stock yesterday!

Ok..i found a bootleg clip on youtube.
WTF?! I would almost prefer to see David Hasselhauf play that role than HIM! I mean...come on.
Oh and I read Thor is suppose to be out June 2010. Was that here or elsewhere? Iron Man 2 before that I think along with Captain America...and then the Avengers putting them all together which would be interesting to see.

Hungerfan, I agree about Sam Jackson. He's an actor that used to have a Cool Factor about him. But now, frankly, I'm kind of tired of the guy. I've come to realize that he's not even that great an actor. He stunk up the screen in two Star Wars movies and he's practically become a parody of himself at this point. His delivery of those few lines in the Iron Man cameo was pretty bad. I wasn't even aware that Nick Fury had been "re-imagined" in that way until I looked it up online. It's not necessarily that I'm some kind of big Nick Fury fan; I just rolled my eyes when I saw Sam in the role. I won't go as far as prefering Hasselhoff in the role, but I will say that at least Hasselhoff looked like Nick Fury.
I'm interested to see what they do with The Avengers. I'm also skeptical of how Captain America and Thor are going to translate into live action. There's no way Cap is going to be wearing that red, white, and blue costume of his. Expect the black costume. Black leather. The choice of movie superheroes everywhere.

*sigh*
In the ultimate universe, Nick Fury is a black guy that looks exactly like Samuel L. Jackson. In fact, the appearance of the ultimate universe Nick Fury was modeled after Samuel L. Jackson with his permission.

Yeah, Tokyo, I know. (Gotta love Wikipedia.) I just don't get it. Especially the part about deliberately modelling him after Jackson. I guess I'm just not a Sam Jackson fanboy. Not a big "re-imagining" fan either. Just a big grumpy geezer.
Sorry to make you sigh. At least you didn't "harrumph." ;)

Well the Nick Fury I grew up with was no Samuel Jackson. Having a hard enough time getting use to the new Iron Man comics but they have hooked me. I would not have minded if they went that route with the Iron Man movie but I guess you would do better building up to the new stuff than just throwing it out there. Maybe Iron Man 2.
Oh and EK...I was just stating that I would rather see David play the part even though the movie he did blew chunks and his acting is below sub par.
"Which government agency do you work for?"
"The one that says 'Bad Motherfucker' on it."
Just doesn't work for me.

Exactly, Hungerfan. The saddest thing about the Hasselhoff version is that he DOES look very much like Fury in that movie. He's got those kind of chiseled comic book character features. He looks like a comic book character. Unfortunately, he's David Hasselhoff -- World's Biggest Douchebag.

All of the Marvel movies follow the ultimate universe...not the original universe.
I'm a real comic book nerd...you have no idea.

You think I like the ultimate universe? What are you...high?
I hate the ultimate universe, and I hate the fact all the comic movies seem to follow it more then the original storylines.

Okay, just so we're all in agreement here... Ultimate Universe sucks donkey balls, right? Sorry, Tokyo. I thought you were *sighing* because hungerfan and I were going on about the new Nick Fury. And I wasn't even high. Maybe drunk. But not high.
Not only am I all about original versions, I've desperately been wanting to see a Golden Age comic book movie. I'm an unashamed vocal fan of "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow," and after I saw it I started wishing that someone would do a Golden Age Superman movie set in that time and done in that style. Like the old Fleischer cartoons of the 1940's. Old school giant robots, crazy death rays, etc. I'm a sucker for that stuff.

I liked Iron Man because it seemed more about a maverick inventor than a superhero. I liked seeing him build and test the suit. Nice to see someone putting hard work into obtaining their powers rather than just getting bitten or falling into a vat of whatever. Nolan's new Batman movies are like that too.
