I love the video.

David, the artwork and animation are terrific. I sense a career ahead of you, sir.

Man that was definitely a darker view on the song then I was initally thinking :S

Great animation and it did work with the song very nicely. :D

Well, correct that, very well worth the wait. Loved the concept in your lyrics but then put to animation, it really packs a punch. Nice work you two.

Well. ya that is quite true but it just took me off guard as you had a very light on violence theme/Tongue in cheek approach up till this point.

A fan of the underdog...

..I can't help but appreciate the two heroes at the end of the animation. It's a great time-tested message, who will pick up on it?

I hope someone picks up on it. I knew from the get-go I wanted the main character to die, but there had to be some positive aspect to it. Glad you like it.

Ya I admit I was happy those 2 did throw down arms and enjoy the happy life :D Too bad the first guy had to set an example with his death though. :(

Very well made, I congratulate you sers! I love the animation and the music, especially your voice NT; you have a very melodic voice.

Do you have the lyrics written down somewhere that we can read them?

I was so happy that he got away, but then forgot about the title and felt bad when he died. Poor guy. But the two who threw down their daggers and ran for the hills so to speak had a different meaning for me. Since we know what they look like without their paper masks it kind of gives me a freaky feeling; I hope they don't bite anyone down there with their ruby jaws. :)

Great job you guys and all involved. Yes thanks for sharing.

Death By Luxury
Caviar and sushi bars and golden spoons
The rich keep getting richer and the poor must learn to cope
All your friends surrounding you with their diamond knives
Circling sharks with rows of sharpened ruby daggers

Don’t let it get in the way of the party
The best of the best
Don’t settle for anything less

The company you seek and keep will define you
Motivations can’t escape some questioning
Champagne chandeliers, sparkling grins from ear to ear
All the world’s an oyster and you are the pearl inside

I think that this "collabo" was a great success. Good luck to both of you guys, because you both have a lot of catching up to do if you want to be as famous as me....ha ha (just kidding)

Just watched it again, it was creepy knowing what was under those mask's all the time.

Out of curiousity were you trying to say anything beyond what was remarked on in this thread?

Wow, thanks so much everyone for your compliments!

It's great to see that the piece is actually affecting people on a somewhat emotional level. You get sort of desensitized when in the middle of creating it.

Of course there's more, but other people's interpretations are much more interesting? ;]

I was thinking about this last night and had a revelation. I was looking at the video for the meaning when I wasn't paying attention to the song.

Basically, my thoughts it is that its a statement on two things.

1) Money does not equal happiness
2) Money causes greed, greed causes envy, envy causes hatrad and hatrad causes all the evils of the world.

That's the basic idea. Greed = not good. ;]

I was shocked to see David Houry in the credits. I just assumed that NT did it all since the animation shares similar stylings to I Blame The Apple. Way to go guys! Amazing quality.

Let me know how distraught you are when the money starts rolling in! I say that sarcastically of course...the point was not lost on me.

No, no, David spent MUCH more time on this project than I did - including the time it took to write and record the song. Props to him. He had a lot of creative freedom, and I was just there to direct him along the way.

Aw heck, it only took an entire semester and all summer. No big deal!

...but so as not to come across as a complete smartass:
Thanks NT.

Heh, don't sound too imbittered ;)

It's hard to try and shine in NTB's shadow of achievement :D

Seriously though, you have a real gift and should be proud.

Hahaha, no kidding. Man, I've been such a fan of NT's for so long. It's been really exciting for me to get to collaborate with him.

And yes, Death By Luxury shares similar aesthetics to I Blame the Apple, which was somewhat intentional. We wanted to keep the visuals as simple as possible, while communicating big metaphors. Working that way forced every little desicion to be purposeful, right down to the colorscheme.
