Identity Theft Spoof commercials

Postby ntbullock » June 16th, 2006, 5:12 pm

I started working on two VERY quick identity theft commercials. Maybe I can get them done before I leave town Tuesday.

I don't think I've mentioned this on the forum, but I've got a music video shoot for a gospel singer in North Carolina [that's a 1,000 mile drive for me]. Then I gotta swing back through Nashville to meet some business contacts. I'll be gone about a week. I'm going to try and keep up with the forum and my email as best I can.

Thats ok we can amuse ourselves while you are away. It gives us a chance to talk about you behind your back.
Look forward to your spoof commercials too, your spoofs are good (eewww that sounds disgusting).
Are these gospel singers anything to do with those christian rockers that you did the videos for?
I didn't say it was your FAULT I said I was going to BLAME YOU

I don't recall any christian rockers... rappers, yes - rockers, no. This gospel singer has nothing to do with the other than the fact that he is signed with the same record company that my christian rapper got signed to.

The joke is a little different between the two. I think people will pick a "favorite." I like them both for different reasons. It'll be nice to step away for a little bit and watch it again to see what I think. Not that I've spent a long amount of time with the material - hell, it only took a few days to put together in my "spare time."

Of course, I had to go get some nerdy desktops for the shoot. I knew exactly which ones to go get!

Well done!

I've been hooked on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/ lately. The concept and execution of your ideas are way above the typical fare that YouTube offers; although there are some very good vids on YouTube, too.

I seriously think that you should put that video up on YouTube. I think you will be suprised by the response it gets. You may get viewings in the hundreds of thousands. Even millions (and *tens* of millions) of viewings are possible. No kidding! It wont drain your bandwidth, because YouTube hosts it. And you'll get a count of how often the video is wathced.

You could post links in with this website so that people could check out the other great stuff you have to offer ... mind you, in that case, you may have your server mercilessly whacked.

Seriously man, consider the YouTube option.

I have a contact at ifilm that I'll try first before youtube. I've never used youtube.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm glad it wasn't a total bust. I was trying to create something really quick because I'm about to be even busier with clients.

My understanding is that "they don't". I heard that it costs them something like $1m per month on hosting fees (feel free to correct me if you know better). They don't make a profit (not suprising!), so it's a case of eating through the venture capital money. People have been speculating as to how they ever can make money - ad revenue seems the best anyone can come up with - still, at $1m a month, it's difficult to see how they will become a viable business.

I'm from Blighty, so I've never seen any Citibank ads. But what I see in my eyes is a simple concise idea that to me looks *original*. You also realised the idea well. It seems to me the sort of thing that would really go down well on YouTube.

I really liked your Glitch video, it contains some real gems. In Lost Hope, though, you really brought your game to the next level (but I liked the storyline in Glitch, whereas Lost Hope seemed more like a bundle of quick-fire gags. The Deathticle - oh man!).

I hope things work out well for you.

My contact is going to try and get it up on ifilm today.

Is there really any benefit to me personally putting the movie up on youtube or could someone else do it? Don't you have to have an account or something?

I was about to suggest you put some of your stuff on Youtube. It would definately get a lot more exposure.

Dont they claim ownership to your stuff, as per a column I saw posted in the misc forum here about 2 weeks ago?

As for the commercial itself:
Very, very well done, NT-- I particularly like the line about murder- it was JUST too much enough to be both funny and wrong, but moreso funny
Anyway, great job!

I've got to look into youtube and the ownership element.

No, I don't play Everquest or WOW. Uh, I like Resident Evil 4?

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/user/sequentialpictures

What others do you guys think are worthy of "tubing?"

You do have to have an account - but setting one up is no biggy at all. The effort involved is infinitesimal compared to making the thing in the first place.

A quick scan through the conditions:
http://www.youtube.com/t/terms
reveals that it is permissable to submit the copyright material of others - provided it has the consent of the owner. By posting material, YouTube are allowed to show your work (otherwise it wouldn't make sense), and create derivative works and distribute them.

I have a downloaded copy of your video, and a YouTube account - I do have a video on it, but I'd remove it because mine is total rubbish. Also, I want to avoid the possibility of piggy-backing off your good work - which is why I think you should have your own account, where you can retain control.

Silly me - posting without looking at the whole of this thread. I saw your vid over at YouTube. It may take a bit of time for you to gather momentum - but I have confidence. I don't know what the deal is with getting featured - although a title like ShitiBank (and it's use in the video) may preclude it :(

Videos are restricted to 10 mins running time and 100MB . So Glitch and New Hope may be a problem (can't remember the running time of New Hope). I suspect that New Hope will cause a riot if you trimmed it to 10 mins and submitted it. I expect the AfroMen video will go down a treat, too.

Best of luck!

Lost Hope is 6 mins.

What happens to widescreen video that doesn't have the black bars? Does it stretch it out like myspace?

Of course, by New Hope I meant Lost Hope. D'oh.

I bet it does what myspace does and stretches it. I'd have to re-compress matted versions of the widescreen content for posting. Can't do that right now...

Saw the commercials you did the other day. Very nice! Gave me a laugh after a long workday (I'm actually in Asheville, North Carolina right now for a construction job). I'm impressed how well the lip sync worked out between the two. The second one has it's charm because the girl, with your voice, acted in a manner that really seemed like you (did my wording make sense?). Anyway, keep it up!

As usual I am finding out about things well after the fact. I love these two commercial spoofs and would love to see more of it. Nice lip sinc on both and good writing. I cannot pick a favorite but the ending to the second one was hilarious.

Keep it up.

I love the Shitibank commercials... Maybe I could claim all my credit card debt as identity theft... HA... now that's an idea... Take care of yourself and holla when you get a chance... I'm possibly moving soon but not far i'm sure...
